Hi there! My name is Buddy and I'm looking for a family to love and spoil me. I'm a male boxer/terrier mix about 10 months old. I love to play and I have lots of energy, so I'd be happy and safe if I had a nice size fenced in yard to romp around in. I'm about 45 pounds and my foster mom keeps telling me how strong I am. It must be all that healthy food and exercise she gives me. Since I'm still young, I'm still learning the difference between right and wrong, and what's good and bad. It all started one day when my family decided they could no longer take care of me so they dropped me off at a shelter where I was scared and all alone lying on wet concrete floors with little to eat ... not to mention the overcrowded conditions I was living in. Anyways, they only gave me 7 days to find my forever home, and next thing I knew it was... well... day 7! I was shocked to hear that my life was going to end within an hour if a rescue did not step in to save me. Lucky for me, Home At Last stepped up. They got a veterinary hospital to board me until I could be transported to PA all the way from Georgia. I just cannot wait to finally feel safe and in a warm home. Need a Valentine? Perhaps a funny Valentine? You can only smile when you see my cute under-bite and watch me gallop through the grass! I was not always so happy. I was dropped off at a high kill shelter because after being a loyal companion to a family for the past 10-12 years, they decided to move and left me in a very, very scary place. Some volunteers from Home At Last noticed me cowering in the back of a cage scared to death and shaking. I was very matted and very scared. They immediately rescued me and as soon as I got in the car, I was a new man...wagging my tail and giving out lots of love! I am estimated to be 10 - 12 years of age but do not let that fool you. I still have many happy years ahead of me and cannot wait to live the rest of my life in a forever home. I am energetic, run up and down the steps, love car rides, playing with toys, and of course cuddling on your lap. I don't have the best smile but it sure is quirky.... Don't you think? HELP US HELP QUEENIE!! We want to save her life and find her a forever home but we need YOUR help! Queenie is a 6 year old, female shepherd who has a mammary tumor and, per the Vet, is likely to be cancerous. This dog was rescued from a very bad situation and spent her entire life on a chain with no care. Her foster mom and Home At Last saved her on her last day at the shelter. She was about to be euthanized because of her tumor and because her time was up! We are bringing Queenie here to PA to get an operation to remove the tumor and clear her of her cancer. She is also heartworm positive so Home at Last will be treating her for the heartworms as well. However, we need your support! We need to raise money to save Queenie's life!!! However, whenever Matt tells people that I am a Pit mix, people get scared because of my breed and they won't help me find a loving home. Isn't that sad? Who doesn't love Scottie?!!?! Gentle, calm and sweet -- You can't help but love this dog! Scottie was saved from a gassing shelter in South Carolina within hours of being gassed. Home At Last could just not allow that to happen to this super guy! Scottie is a bird dog / lab mix and is a larger framed gentleman with fur just as soft as a bunny rabbit. Extremely low key and happy to share his bachelor quarters with other homeless pets, Scottie goes with the flow and can always be found with a huge grin on his freckled little face. Count on Scottie to hang real close to you....maybe even thinking you are the back of a chair as he leans into you, while you take a quick break mid-walk. Scottie loves being near people and is such a joy to pet as you just know he loves every darn minute of it! Scottie did test positive for heart worm but Home At Last is giving him treatments and those pesky worms will be all gone! He is neutered, current on all vaccinations and about 2 yrs old. It's hard not to notice this tall brindle ankled girl!! Tipping the scales at over 60 lbs, Shenandoah is extremely gentle and very, very doting on other dogs in need. Out on our walk, she kept a super close eye on her new best friend, Becky the beagle. Shenandoah would slowly come on over, roll over on her back and almost nudge Becky to do the same. She has a beautiful, calm energy about her and somehow seems to make everything better! She is affectionate, doting and could really be in her element as a therapy dog. Having her belly rubbed and rubbed some more would be heaven for her! She fits in perfectly with kids, dogs and cats. She is heartworm positive but Home At Last is going to treat her for those pesky worms and she is expected to make a full recovery. She is up to date on all her shots, spayed and ready for her home! Incredibly sweet and yes, just as popular and sought after as her namesake, Splenda is a petite framed girl (20 pounds) who will easily fit into the smallest of laps. Although she may look like a pup, she already has a couple of years of pet experience under her paws. Extremely low key and reserved, she is a very quiet, polite little lady. Splenda is fine with other dogs but would prefer to hang out on the side lines and watch her kennelmates play, mix and mingle and put on a show. Splenda is a very likable lady who will gently greet you with a sweet smile and body jiggle when you enter her kennel. Splenda did test positive for heartworm but will be treated prior to adoption and we expect her to make a full recovery! Interested in adopting one of the dogs listed above? Here are the next steps:
Complete our online adoption application with the name of the dog you are applying for.
Have you previously submitted an application for a different dog? There’s no need to submit another one unless any of your other information has changed! Just send us an e-mail to let us know which dog you’re currently interested in.
We will review all applications for each dog in order to make a decision about which home best suits the dog’s needs. Applications are not considered in the order they are received; all applications will be considered in determining the best situation for each dog. Completing an adoption application is not a guarantee that you will receive the dog you are applying for, and Home At Last reserves the right to reject any application as we see fit.
We will call the Personal and Veterinary references you listed on the application and contact you to schedule a home visit. These checks are performed to ensure that you will be a responsible pet parent and that you will provide routine veterinary care for the dog as needed.
During a home visit, we will assess the living situation as well as the dog’s behavior, especially around any children or other pets you may have. If we feel that your home is the best situation for the dog, we will leave him/her there with you assuming you are prepared to receive your new dog. You will be asked to sign our Adoption Contract and a $275.00 adoption fee must be paid to Home At Last Dog Rescue, which is necessary to cover the cost of spaying/neutering, medicating, and transporting our dogs.
